[SOLVED]Pseudo keyboard freeze/focus confusion

Post by rockadile »

I have a weird issue where randomly my keyboard stops responding while typing. It is not neccesarily frozen as I can still use it for shortcut keys and what not. This happens several times daily and I've been trying to see what is going on. What I've noticed is that Alt-Tab to another running application and back seems to fix the issue. Using the mouse to switch between applications and back, however, does not. The last time it happenned, I hit the enter key and it opened an application that I had opened earlier in the day from the menu. It appears this may be related to the system getting confused as to what has focus. I am running the Mint 17.1 Cinnamon with all of the latest updates installed. This started happenning within the last few weeks IIRC. Anyone else seeing this wierdness?

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it fullscreen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
if you type: the letter F is a capital letter

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Might be a driver issue. First try the easy generic solutions: install the latest kernel from the 3.13 series:
https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... el-updates
(item 3, right column)

Then reboot.

When no improvement: install the latest kernel from the 3.16 series. Then reboot.

When still no improvement: check for a newer BIOS / UEFI and when available, install it.

If these generic measures don't help any, please report back.

Upgrading to the latest 3.13 series kernel did not work. However, upgrading to the latest 3.16 kernel appears to have resolved the problem.

Thanks.
