About to give up on Cinnamon - X keeps crashing

Post by cyclism »

My X-Windows keeps crashing randomly through the day, usually when I'm clicking on something within RDESKTOP or a browser, mostly Chrome.
I get these errors-

Code: Select all

I've updated to the latest of everything as of a few days ago, tried to search, nothing solid comes up, anyone have any ideas?

Please generate an overview of your hardware like this:
- launch a terminal window and make it fullscreen, to avoid chopped lines;
- type this command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

verde mdm[18410]: WARNING: mdm_slave_xioerror_handler: Fatal X error - Restarting :0

If you don't get a better answer, you might try replacing mdm with lightdm (just install it, and apt/dpkg will ask which one to use).

Do you have this problem too, in the live session ("try before install") of the Xfce edition of Linux Mint 17.1? Get the iso here:
http://mirror.jmu.edu/pub/linuxmint/ima ... -64bit.iso

The lightweight simpler Xfce desktop might be more stable on your hardware, than the main desktop Cinnamon.
