Using a lenovo thinkpad T440s.
With linux mint 16 If you press and unpress the mute hot key the sound panel updates nicely reflecting the volume mute status.
However when selecting mute in the sound settings panel it does not trigger the keyboard mute hot key and so cause the little LED to light.
So this can lead to situations where the two are not in sync.
It all works in linux mint 17 booted from a USB drive but I'm not ready to upgrade because other support for the T440s have regressed.
I'm quite happy to reapply a fix to older code and build and install a new library but I need to know what was fixed.
Does anyone know what the fix was?
(or where I can find out if not here)

SOLVED: Sound settings panel mute - mint 16
I found I just needed to update the kernel to latest stable 3.18.3 and all was fine.
