I have just finished installing Mint 17 and switched from the nouveau driver to the nvidia 331.113 driver. The problem is that my resolution is now stuck in 2880x1620. When I try to change the resolution I get the error:
Failed to apply configuration: %s
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.cinnamon.SettingsDaemon was not provided by any .service files
I have no idea where to start solving this. Appreciate any help.

Solved - Re: Can't change resolution after changing drivers
I am glad I can post a solution or at least work around. Nothing on the net answered this - so i kinda lucked into it.
removed .config/monitors.xml,
restarted
and Display manager went to booting up quickly again - with no black background issue either - everything back to normal - so easy.
