[SOLVED] Nemo or cinnamon-settings-daemon Issue?

Post by greenpin »

Ever since I installed 17.1 RC (clean), I'm experiencing slow login times and Nemo appears to use the older GTK them and icons. All other applications appear to use Mint-X theme and icons. I'm able to do 'nemo -q' and then re-launch Nemo to make it look correct. I've looked through syslog, and only see the following warning (which seems to be causing a lot of delay):

Code: Select all

Nov 25 10:18:22 artimes cinnamon-session[1923]: WARNING: Application 'cinnamon-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout
Nov 25 10:18:22 artimes cinnamon-session[1923]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. Sorry....
The same issues appears to have been reported in #127 of this post (http://blog.linuxmint.com/?p=2626).

I've searched around, and found this old post referencing a timing issue due to fast SSD, but the workaround did not help me (http://askubuntu.com/questions/42889/up ... y-and-boxy). I also do not have a '~/.config/monitors.xml' file as described in this post (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 8&t=174324).

How can I go about troubleshooting this? Any ideas what might be going on?

My system info is:

Re: Nemo or cinnamon-settings-daemon Issue?

I may have found the source of my problem. I noticed the message 'usbcore: registered new interface driver snd-usb-audio' was logged after a long delay, so I unplugged my Brookstone 2.4GHz wireless headset (USB connected transmitter), restarted, and I'm no longer getting the 'WARNING: Application 'cinnamon-settings-daemon.desktop' failed to register before timeout' message in syslog or ugly Nemo theme and icons. Login time has significantly decreased, as well.

The headset works -- is there a configuration/optimization change I need to make?

From syslog:
