I have an Intel i5 notebook, with intel integrated graphic card, 8gb ram and Samsung 840 SSD running Linux Mint 17 64bit. So Cinnamon should run very smooth.
But when I open or save a file, Cinnamon freezes for several seconds.
I still can move the mouse but the rest is totally freezed.
It's totally annoying.
During freezing the fan of my notebook is increasing.
And short after the freezing stopped System Monitor is showing that Cinnamon is using 100% of the CPU-power.
How can I find out what is responsible for this?
I already searched in cinnamon -> looking glass and syslog. Can't find anything special.
Thanks in advance!!!

Re: cinnamon freezes for seconds when I open or save a file
I had a similar situation, but in my case cinnamon was increased the memory usage when i try to save a file (not the CPU)... I resolve my problem. I delete my profile and create a new one...
Re: cinnamon freezes for seconds when I open or save a file
@lestcape thank you very much for your answer, but I would prefer to solve the problem without deleting my account.
Because it's a lot of work to set up all settings again.
Looked at my memory an cinnamon was using 2 hours after boot 679 MB of Ram.
Only one window of firefox, system monitor and gedit was open.
After restart of cinnamon with alt+f2 -> r, it's using 137 MB of Ram. But growing again constantly.
So there is definitely a problem with cinnamon.
But how can I find out what exactly the problem is?

@lemongrass you need to read this:
https://github.com/linuxmint/cjs/issues/15
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/3657
https://github.com/linuxmint/Cinnamon/issues/3690
I hope you find a solution, i can not find a solution and i forced to delete my profile... Apparently there are something in the settings that the new version of Cinnamon dislikes...

Re: cinnamon freezes for seconds when I open or save a file
Couldn't find the cause of the problem.
I freshly installed Linux Mint 17.1 and created a new /home partition and created a new user. No the problem is gone.
@ lestcape thanks very much for your help!!!

Re: cinnamon freezes for seconds when I open or save a file
Have the same issue on LM 17.1 deleted folders /home/<my_name>/.cinnamon && /home/<my_name>/.local/share/cinnamon and it looks like it helped ...

Code: Select all
rm -r ~/.cinnamon ~/.local/share/cinnamon
