I have lost the ability to specify icons for new menu items.
Adding a new item, the launcher properties shows the icon, but after closing the launcher editor the icon doesn't appear on the menu. When i re-open the menu item for editing, the icon shows a little red X, indicating a null.
Clicking the menu item works--it's just that there's no icon.
(Maybe this is why: I ran into a weird problem for which I could find no help anywhere, so a geek friend suggested I remove all the dot files from my home directory. Which I did, for everything other than known working apps. I've been patiently rebuilding all the config files, and have had no problems so far. Until now. I figure I must be missing some ./menu item icons/ directory... But I dunno what it would be.)

I suggest you move your personal data out of your profile, then create a new profile (a new user), configure all again for this user and delete then the old one...
Re: Mint 17 Cinn: Cannot add icons to new menu items
are you individually setting icons, or trying to load a theme?

That a bit more drastic than deleting the dot files.lestcape wrote:I suggest you move your personal data out of your profile, then create a new profile (a new user), configure all again for this user and delete then the old one...
Wait a minute! Got it! --I'll simply re-install Mint 17! That'll fix everything. Until the next weird glich arises.

Re: Mint 17 Cinn: Cannot add icons to new menu items
I gave a solution that can be performed in less than 10 minutes, without asking anything to an idiot (like me)...
Any other solution here only provide more questions and more time lost.
Good luck.

Re: Mint 17 Cinn: Cannot add icons to new menu items
create a folder inside your /home directory, named .ikonz or something similar, but not .icons, so it won't be confused with other system folders...
then place all your icons you want in there, then load from that folder.
-- hope that helps.

In a terminal:
Now it works.
Code: Select all
cinnamon --replace
