Backup & restore hotkeys and panels, moving from v13 to v17

Post by mattst »

Hi,

I'm running Linux Mint 64 Cinnamon 13 LTS (Maya) but have a new desktop PC on which I will do an install of Linux Mint 64 Cinnamon 17 LTS (Qiana).

Is it possible to backup my Cinnamon hotkeys as I have 51 custom keys which will take an hour or two to redo? Half point to scripts that do various things so I'll need to enter the path for each one, ouch.

Is it possible to backup my Cinnamon desktop panels, including the applets and program quick launchers and the layout of all that?

Clearly I need to backup on 13 LTS and restore on 17 LTS.

Fingers crossed. Thanks all.

There should be keymaps or shortcuts in Cinnamon-->settings
http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 8&t=102475
system-->Settings-->Keyboard-->

Also Gconf-editor will have global keymapping

I think applets will sometimes be application specific
--otherwise it is a default set that is available for the taskbar, such as clock/date

If you collect/transfer your .dot files (hidden ) files in your /home/user directory
--you should then have the application settings available for the next version of the OS, of course that means you would have to install apps again.
  • Your backup process will help
--or you could simply save the set of installed application on Mint 13x and reinstall them to Mint 17x
Could be a better process, since some libs or other data for the system will likely change between Mint 13x-->Mint 17X
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/linux-get ... store.html
--a standard method of installing/reinstalling an application set

http://www.howtogeek.com/111989/how-to- ... on-ubuntu/
--that's a Ubuntu process, I don't know if they will enable/allow a Mint OS to also use that method, it is web based..

Yes I know where the global mapping is, just not what file will allow me to transfer the mappings accross from v13 to v17. Or if it will work or muck up my clean install.

KEY MAPPING - Is it as simple as copying and restoring ~/.config/dconf/user ?

Also I know where all my other config stuff is - just not panels and key mapping and whether I can copy the appropraite files from v13 to v17 without problems.
