Removed cinnamon, blank screen on reboot

Post by ygg- »

I wanted to switch to Xfce, so I uninstalled Cinnamon through Synaptic; but at reboot I have a persistant blank screen... now I'm trying to save my file on an external drive through a live CD, but I have repeatedly "permission denied"... Whatcan I do to
1) copy my files (my backup is slightly late...)
2) get back LM17 under XFCE?
Thanks for any help... :(

1. Run this code in a terminal:

Code: Select all

gksudo xdg-open ~/
It will open your home directory with root privilege and you will have ultimate access to everything..........

2. Reinstall LM from live dvd

Next time, first install xfce then logout and login with xfce session and on the way make it default, then uninstall cinnamon or whatever...

And next time add the new desktop before you uninstall the old one.
You can have more than one installed. Currently I have both Cinnamon and XFCE installed right now.

@Jahid: I don't get a terminal either: a black, blank screen with the white pointer...
@InkKnife : OK thanks.
I finally reinstalled LM17 Xfce --my backup was OK.
