cinnamon wont restart after suspend

Hi.
I am running Mint 17 on an ASUS mobo with an NVIDIA Ge210 GFX card. I am using Nouveau driver. See below for more details re setup.
Problem is that cinnamon has become very flaky in the last 2 weeks. On resume from suspend I do not see a desktop. X11 seems to start OK, because I can move the mouse and use the keyboard to open terminals (CTL-ALT-F1 etc) but there is no taskbar, or hot corners etc.
Once in a terminal I can even issue a startx cmd and get my usual desktop that way. Then when I log out (from the desktop) I get back to the terminal again.
But the CTL-ALT-F7 just shows my either a black screen with a moveable mouse cursor, or my background image with a moveable mouse cursor.
Examining the dmesg and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files I don't see anything that looks suspicious (but I don't know what to look for anyway).

So: Q1 How do I restart cinnamon from a terminal?
Q2 anyone else having a problem with cinnamon? if so what is the best desktop to use with Mint 17?

I have exactly the same problem with the suspend from the very begining of the installation but i don't know where the problem is.

For your first question, you can restart from terminal by typing

Further testing on this matter. I have tried different distros. Here are some results:
Distro.....................................Freezes On Resume
Mint 16 with Cinnamon.................No works fine.
Mint 17 with Cinnamon.................Yes. Problem
Mint 17.1 with Cinnamon...............Yes Problem
Mint 17 with Mate.......................Usually Yes Problem. (This is Cinnamon version of Mint with Mate Desktop added. It does not work right. Windows have no borders.
Mint 17 with Mate 1.8................... Yes/No. Resume comes to a black screen. But hitting CR then shows working desktop. This is a version of Mint created with Mate. No Cinnamon present.
Mint 17 with KDE........................Yes Problem. This is cinnamon version of Mint with KDE desktop added.
Mint 17 with XFCE.......................No Works fine. This is cinnamon version of Mint with XFCE added.
Kodi........................................No Works fine.
Ubuntu 14.04 + Unity .................Yes. Problem. Screen freezes after displaying desktop.
Ubuntu 14.1 with Unity.................No. works fine.
Kubuntu 14.1 with KDE 4.14.........No. Works fine.
Mageia 4.1 with KDE ..................No. Works fine.
Mint Debian with Cinnammon 2.0 .. No Works fine.
Trisquel 6.0 .................................Yes. Display comes back. Mouse moves. But clicks don't work, and display is frozen.
Korora 20 (Fedora 20 + Mate 1.6) .. No. Works fine.
Suse 13.1 + KDE 4.11 ................. No. Works fine.



How does one report this bug to the Mint Developers?
It does not seem as if they read the forums.
