Ubuntu style taskbar?

Post by Seanus »

Hi, im new to linux been using for 2 weeks and love it!. Just wondering if there is anyway to make the Cinnamon 17 taskbar look like Ubuntu. I want to hide open application titles and only show the icons and also have applications minimized to a icon just like Ubuntu/Win7, thanks.

To remove the name of the running apps from the panel select "Applets" from the Menu and turn off "Window List".
If you want icons to show for running apps you have a couple options:

You can install a dock program and configure it accordingly. For example, DockBarX has an option in Properties to "Show Previews" which (like Windows-7) will show a thumbnail preview of a running program.
Besides the popular Cairo Dock, here is a list of other docks you can check out:

You can install and uninstall programs using Software Manager.

Another option would be to go to the Cinnamon Spices web site, then download and install the "Window List with App Grouping" applet. This applet will put 'icons only' on your panel, plus it will also show you a thumbnail preview of the window. If you don't already have have 'quick launch' icons on your panel it has an option to add those too.

See if the third-party window list suits? You could replace default windows list applet provided by Cinnamon.
