can't change any settings in cinnamon

Post by nanders83 »

dear all,

at my PC at home I have Mint 17 Cinnamon edition installed which worked perfectly from the first install (just after release).
however, after a regular "apt-get upgrade" a few weeks ago everytime I login all my cinnamon settings are back the way they are after a fresh install (wallpaper, panels, animations). I can't change any settings, such as the wallpaper (doubleclicking in the wallpaper dialog doesn't do anything) and desktop icons Computer, Home, and Mounted volumes can't be removed via the system settings window. In addition, all changes I make to the panel (application launchers) are restored after logging out and in.

I think something is blocking or was made read-only for some reason (the .cinnamon folder is not). I am the only user and have an administrator account.

"apt-get --reinstall install cinnamon" had no effect.

I'm not sure where to look for a next step. Any ideas? thanks!

it had to do with this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/757866

in an attempt to fix it, I broke it entirely and was forced to reinstall. Luckily I had a separate /home partition so most settings were stored.
