LM17 Cinnamon random freezes for some seconds

Post by fehlfarbe »

Hi,

I installed Linux Mint 17 64bit Cinnamon some months ago and everything worked perfect with my setup. But for 2 or 3 weeks I get random freezes, especially when I'm opening large [image] files or when I switch between windows. Musicplayer and other processes are working in the background and I can move the mouse but the GUI is frozen for maybe 20 seconds. I have a similar problem while login. I type my username and password at the login screen and then I can see a black screen with moveable mouse cursor for maybe for 1 minute before Cinnamon is starting.

I tried to install the Nvidia driver with

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings
But after reboot I'm getting "cinnamon just crashed you are currently running in Fallback Mode." error. I also disabled the Nvidia card in BIOS but nothing changed :(

Thank you in advance :)

I think I solved the problem. My HDD was broken some days later so I reinstalled the system on a new HDD and it worked fast and without freezes. After some weeks I got the same problem again. It startet with long waiting time after login before the desktop gets visible and there were more and more freezes. After removing the recent opened files list I got no freezes anymore :)
