Sadly the problem is back after restarting

The problem occurred again for me, so I tried upgrading to 17.1. This didn't work, so I figure it's something to do with cinnamon. I changed my driver to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and the problem was still not fixed. However, after a few restarts it once again (seemingly) randomly fixed itself.
This bug is extremely tricky to work out a causal connection for, but I think it's probably to do with the nvidia proprietary graphics drivers. I'll keep this thread posted if it happens again and we can file a bug report.
