[Solved] Greyed-out Panel Application Icons

Does anyone know how I can make the panel show the original Application icons instead of the ones showed in my screenshot (attached).
IMG-20121210-001.png
For example, on Cinnamon 1.6, the following application icons are greyed out (but perfectly functional) :-
- Tomboy Notes
- Pidgin
- Shutter

I'm using the standard/default theme that came with LM14 Cinnamon.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you go to Cinnamon Settings>Themes>Other settings? And Check Icon Theme. Also a particular Gtk theme can make them ugly.

Thanks for the pointer of the "Other Settings".

Re-setting the Theme to "Nightlife Graphite" and Icon Theme to "Mint-X-Dark" (instead of Mint-X), seemed better with Pidgin and Shutter.
Tomboy Notes icon didn't get any better no matter which Icon Theme I chose, but I can live with that one as it is now.

I noticed that if I changed to hicolor or default (and some others) that the shutter and pidgin icon showed their original colours, but seemed not to be the correct size or not positioned correctly. So, Mint-X-Dark it is for the partial improvement ;-)

Thanks for the assistance.

Yep the only other thing is google icon replacements then find where the app stores it's default icon and replace it with another that would fare better. Deviant art and Gnome themes.org would be places to look?

Yes, I had a look in /usr/share/themes for Mint-X, but it showed the original icons (in this case the original shutter icon), not a greyed out version, so the files must be held somewhere else.

If I find where the dulled icon resides, I'll replace them with the original application icons, but I guess that if the theme gets updated by the developers that any change I make may later be overridden.

I think you want to be looking in /usr/share/icons?

Yes, that was the folder I meant (sorry).... but I didn't find any "greyed-out" shutter icons in there (including sub-folders).
That folder only returned the normal (blue) shutter icon that I would expect to see.

** Let me correct myself ....

I can see the icon(s) I'm looking for now.
They are indeed in there... I'll have a go at replacing them with the originals and see how I get on.

For what it's worth... I also was a bit annoyed in particular by the tomboy and pidgin icons. Too dark!

I changed them so that now Tomboy shows the lighter gray icon and Pidgin shows its original good old icons. It looks like this:
panelicons.png
I use Mint-X icons, and what I changed was, for Tomboy replace:
/usr/share/icons/Mint-X/status/22/tomboy-panel.png
/usr/share/icons/Mint-X/status/24/tomboy-panel.png
With:
/usr/share/icons/Mint-X-Dark/status/22/tomboy-panel.png
/usr/share/icons/Mint-X-Dark/status/24/tomboy-panel.png

And for Pidgin, I replaced all icons from:
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/Mint-X/status/16/*
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/Mint-X/status/22/*
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/Mint-X/status/32/*
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/Mint-X/status/48/*
With:
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/hicolor/16x16/status/*
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/hicolor/22x22/status/*
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/hicolor/32x32/status/*
/usr/share/pixmaps/pidgin/tray/hicolor/48x48/status/*

I had a hard time figuring this out and finding out that the panel icons for Pidgin are not in the /usr/share/icons/ folder where I was expecting them to be. This should be an easy way for anyone wanting to use Pidgin default icons.

If you're going to try this make sure you backup files before replacing them and all that story.
