Error w 'mate-settings-daemon'

Post by jonas-e »

When I try to change my keyboard settings, I keep getting an error for mate-settings-daemon on my LM Mate 17 - see screenshot. I have only Mate desktop on this machine.

Error message: Unable to start settings manager 'mate-settings-daemon' ...

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hi you may want to check out this fix http://www.ajopaul.com/2012/05/30/ubunt ... gs-daemon/

Would suggest you read the replys to the fix posted by other users with the same problem also.

Thanks, I had seen that one but was a bit reluctant to try it out - now I did. This file didn't exist, so I created it:

Code: Select all

/etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-settings-daemon.desktop
Since I only have Mate, I am not sure it is needed, though.

The problem usually occurs after my laptop has been on/hibernated for one or more days, so I can't tell yet if it works.

Nope, didn't work - the problem is back and it has been less than 24 hours ..

I notice when I try to change keyboard layout and I can't - it is stuck on one language and refuses to change.
