Re: Icon Spacing Mate 17.1
Hello,
If this is not a bug, then for reasons unknown and as near as I can tell un-announced and undiscussed, a decision was made in the caja development community to default to compact spacing for Icon view.
This can be reversed by selecting :
View->Arrange items-> from the Caja menu bar and un-checking - Compact Layout.
This has to be done every time a directory defaults to Compact Layout.
I would not be surprised if there is a mate-conf configuration Thingy that can be set to globally default to a non compact layout, but I do not know what that value is - at the moment
Cheers
Colby.

You can try KDE desktop, it handles very well the spacing between icons.
