Caja extend the 'Copy To' right click menu options?

Post by PGG »

For the linux Mint 17.0 MATE edition.

How do I add items for send selection to the right click menu when accessing a file to save to another place. In the Mate version under the right click's 'Copy To' or 'Move To' drop-down list, this just shows 'Home Folder' or 'Desktop'. However, in the CINNAMON version it automatically gives you an option to fully drill down through the file system, giving you the option of choosing the exact folder as to where to send. I wish to add this functionality to the MATE one as well - should already be there by rights! :(

I am at a loss to find the exact commands to write/modify the script(s), assuming that I have to delve into the system files to do this - surely it has already been done? Cannot find any reference to this searching in previous posts - I must be looking in the wrong section?

This may not address your particular use case but assuming that you know ahead of time what destination folder(s) you'd like to send files to, you could just add a launcher to your panel that runs a bash script (one that accepts a single file argument) and then simply drag a file to this launcher on the panel whenever you wanted this action to take place. I do this sort of thing all the time and it works great (here's an example where the copy destination is actually on another computer: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1836).

Thanks for your suggestion, but it does not quite arrive at the desired result. I do have a couple of trial scripts accessed from the right click under 'Scripts >', but it is messy. :(

it seems the answer may be in the 'Caja-actions', however I find the compiling of same a little daunting.

I guess a package may become available soon, but this seems to be mainly used by Apps developers. I was hoping that there was a simpler fix like adding a few lines to an existing script for addressing the location via a Caja files dialog box popping up to drill down into, again as I say, is like Cinnamon already does.

Being as Caja is part of the MATE desktop (http://mate-desktop.org/), you might want to post the question to their forum too. Good luck in finding an answer! :)
