Hello, not sure if this is the right area to post a question about Xorg.
Over time I find that Xorg gradually is using more and more RAM memory. After starting the system it is using about 100MB RAM, but after a few hours it uses considerably more. I noted an increase to 1.6GB RAM after 7 hours. During this time the PC sat idle, Eventually it reaches even higher usage, and the PC becomes unusable and needs to be re-booted.
I'm looking for help to correct this issue with Xorg.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Xorg memory usage
Thanks for helping. My system has the following hardware and setup details:
1. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core CPU 4200+
2. AMD Radeon HD 5450 video card, and I use the HDMI output to a Samsung 32" TV as a monitor (AMD Catalyst Control Center and drivers installed)
3. 4GB DDR2 RAM
4. 32GB SSD for the OS and programs, and a 500GB HD for he Home folder (both use ext4 format)
5. Linux Mint 17 MATE 64 bit
Is this enough information? If more details are needed please let me know.
thanks,
Mike

Re: Xorg memory usage
Yup, it's a bug !!!
These are just a couple of the confirmed reports . . some are for Intel graphics, but AMD chips are mentioned in there too.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1314787
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1354350
On another bug report, one infected user stated that the latest amd catalyst drivers fixed it, but others say no, not fixed yet ??
good luck, and be patient, it'll get fixed sooner or later,

[SOLVED] Re: Xorg memory usage
Hi, my problem was solved by switching video drivers.
I switched from "fglrx" driver, to the recommended "xserver-xorg-video-ati" driver. System runs great, no more issues.
Thanks,
Mike
