I am now turning to you because I have had this problem since a few days, and I have run out of ideas...
To begin with, I am using LinuxMint 13, with the backports repos. I have done a dist-upgrade.
When I login as my user, I get many

The panel encountered a problem while loading "".If I execute

mate-panel --replaceIf I login as another user, the panel is working, and I can add new widgets to it without errors.
I tried to delete my directories .config/mate and .config/mate-sessions.
I copied the .config/mate, .config/dconf, .mateconf, .mateconfd, .cache/mate, .linumint directories from this other user to the one giving me problems.
When I login once more, everything is working fine. When I try to add a widget, I get the same error.

I installed a fresh linuxmint Maya in virtualbox, activated the backports repo, and upgraded everything. In the virtual machine the panel is working all right. I looked at the mate packages versions between the virtual and the real machine, and they are the same.
Do you have an idea what I could do?
How could I reinitialize totally the mate installation?
