Shortcut for switching to a specific language

Post by wirmius »

I am using a lot of different languages, so I would like to assign keyboard shortcuts like [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Num] for each language. I have done this in Windows easily a long time ago, but how do I do this in linux now? I'm using linux mint 17, just in case it matters.

P.S.: I've read on the Internets about this command:

Code: Select all

setxkbmap -layout lang

but people say, that it screws something up, so I'm not sure about this one.

Hello and welcome to this forum!!

I converted a friend to Linux and she wanted to be able to type in Greek.
In this post I put what I did, used keys Shift-CapsLock, was perfect.

Add (Solved) to the topic-title of the first post when appropriate so others know they might find a solution here.

Thanks for the answer, even though I know about that. Unfortunately, that's not what I need, cause I've got four languages and might have even more soon, and pressing Shift-Cpslock, for example, until I get the one I need(and in my case I would need to do it quite frequently), would not be quite convenient. What I need is a way to set, for example Ctrl-Shift-1 for English, Ctrl-Shift-2 for German, Ctrl-Shift-3 for Ukrainian, etc.
