Hello.
I installed Mint 17 Mate (x64). After installing all updates I configured the panel (2 at the top). Otherwise I changed hardly anything.
After restart I only get a blank screen (with 1 panel at the top). Nothing more. The panel jitters and no icon is there (blank panel).
Only the mouse is working, but I cant do anything with it. Mouse clicks dont work. Even the keyboard doesnt seem to work.
Is this a known bug? What can I do?

Yep seems to be...I have posted this in instalation and boot. Have now reinstalled several times just in case...trying one last time and will not add any new panels to see what happens. Hope someone can confirm this as this happen in a previous version until they updated the bug.

Re: Mint 17: after restart no desktop, just empty panel?
Hi, I confirm this is a frequent bug since mint14.
Here is a solution I found to work fine:
1. click with right button on the background screen and select "open in a terminal"
2. at the $ prompt type the following command:
3. the default mate panel should reappear at the bottom of the screen
4. open the menu and close your session
5. you're at the login window, select your username
6. at the right of the window login there is an icon that will allow you to
select your window manager, select mate.
7. type your password
8. your session is now open, you can customize your panel at will, it should be
saved next time you logoff.
