When I right-click on an audio or video file in caja and select "Properties" I do not get the "audio" and "video" tab respectively, in the Properties window.
I suppose this is an issue for other users to.
I have found this topic: http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.p ... 6&t=104099, but no answer has been given there.
Any idea would be welcome.
Thank you

Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
A similar question was asked in September (http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=112920) and a link to MATE forum was posted as well. As far I know other than compling and installing MATE Mplayer (for me the instructions are not clear - http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=372) or waiting for some kind soul to create a 32 bit deb file your only options are:
Install Thunar and Thunar's Media Tags Plugin (http://thunar.xfce.org/plugins.html) or
Install Nautilus,which I have done.
Hopefully in MATE 1.5 this problem will be addressed.

Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
Today, 2013-05, I've installed GNU Mint 15 RC with MATE 1.6 and Caja 1.6.1.
There is still no audio video tab.
« What a rainbows!? »
Can we tell me witch add-on or plug-in should add this prime feature?
Should I simply aptitude install somepackage or some thing like that?
Or they are a very big problem about this feature?
Thanks for all.

Your topic is great to discuss because from sometimes I am also searching the answer of same question and even post it so many forums sites but not find the correct answer but I think your post will help me to get the answer.

Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
Mint 17 (Mate version) which I installed the other day, still has no audio/video tab available when right clicking a video or audio file and selecting "Properties".
This was a very useful feature. I wish it was still there, as on some previous Mint versions.

Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
I had the same problem in Mint 17. I "fixed" it by installing Nautilus from the Software Center. The tab only shows in Nautilus and it's a pity that in it Caja doesn't. It's a pain having to keep loading up another browser when I just need to view audio/video properties.
Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
Try adding Mediainfo with Synaptic. Then right click on a media file and select Properties/Open With then click the Add button and point to Mediainfo program. Now you can right click on a file and select Mediainfo to view the av properties
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

I used the package manager to install the package "mediainfo" and followed the instructions above, but video file details were still not shown.
I uninstalled it, and then noticed there was a package called "mediainfo-gui".
I installed that one instead, and set the "open with" command to
Code: Select all
/usr/bin/mediainfo-gui
Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
I would like this feature to be added too. Have tried compiling mate-video-player but did not work.
Re: audio & video tab missing in caja file properties
I was hoping that we would get media file properties tab back on 17.3, including the ability to edit the information. It is very helpful in managing the media library. MediaInfo isn't good enough as a replacement.
