LM17:Start Menu Blacked Out on Start-up but Icons Still Show

The start menu is blacked out when I click on it. I can see icons, but no text.

My chief suspects are either a driver problem or a coding error in Linux Mate 17 64-bit.

I am running an HP Laptop. HP-Pavilion dv7-6c23cl Entertainment PC. With AMD APU: A8-3520 with 6620g graphics.

I have developed a workaround, by going, laboriously, through the blacked out start menu to 'Appearance' and switching themes and then switching back. The start menu will be fine until next restart, then the problem happens again. Restarting does not fix it as another thread mentioned.

I have checked whether it was my theme, but restarting with ANY theme gets the same results: blacked out start menu.

I also checked every video driver. All three present the same issue.

I would really appreciate some help here guys. Thanks in advance!

Is this a new install?
You can try running:

mintmenu --reset

after which you will have to redo any menu customizations

I installed it a couple of weeks ago. Haven't really done anything with it.

I have installed Mate 64 bit on many systems including all the ones on my network here and
have not had a problem like you describe. I have dorked the menu on a couple and the
mintmenu --reset straightened them out. So I will have to defer you to those that will have a better
insight to your problem.
