[SOLVED]Ubuntu One on LMDE

Post by aspersieman »

Good day all

I really want to replace my existing desktop with LMDE, but in order for me to do so I need to know whether one can use Ubuntu One filesync. I currently use Ubuntu One for a variety of reasons and would like to use it on LMDE too. If it is available on LMDE (or Debian I suppose) how can I go about installing it (in case it isn't just a simple "apt-get install..." away)?.

I am looking forward to trying out LMDE once the update packs have been finalized and tested and an official release has been made.

(NOTE: Please don't suggest Dropbox as an alternative. I am aware of Dropbox and want to know whether one can install and use Ubuntu One specifically)

Not from the default LMDE repositories. Here is a thread (2nd hit on Google "debian ubuntu one" search) describing what you want: http://askubuntu.com/questions/10271/is ... n-possible Note the "we don't have the resources to test it and get it running smoothly everywhere" subtle warning for the borkstorm you might get yourself into with this. Good luck

Cool thanks a lot. I think that answered my question.

My apologies for not replying sooner (I really hate all these "un solved" question threads that popup when you do google seaarches). I will mark this thread as "solved".

HI all ,

I've just installed LMDE ,

Since this post is well over a year old. I just wanted to make sure that the instructions given on http://askubuntu.com/questions/10271/is ... n-possible are still relevant.Or is there now a updated method of installing ubuntu one on LMDE ?

Hi, so sorry for the late response, but I recently moved to LMDE and have been missing ubuntu one. I never successfully got it to work with LMDE but I did find a pretty good alternative. Check out Wuala - has cloud storage and synchronizes to whatever folder you wish on any system you have it installed. So like for me I have a dual boot system - most of the time I am in Linux, but once in awhile I still have to come over to the windows side. I've been able to use Wuala to sync all my pictures and documents on both sides now. http://www.wuala.com
