These latest updates (to 2.88dsf-27) haven't fixed the keyboard/mouse issue here.

As far as I can see, we still don't have a diagnosis of what exactly is causing the problem. Presumably some component of the X-server is being prevented from loading.

The really weird thing is it only affects random people, even with the exact same hardware person (a) may be affected, while person (b) isn't.

It does seem to affect mostly people with usb mouse/kbd.

This fixed it for me.

http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.ph ... 20#p591080
1) as root, delete the link /run
2) make a directory /run
3) reboot
/var/run will automagically change to a link.
It appears Brian is the only one still with the problem?

I got the impression that it effected LMDE, but folks with a Straight Debian base did not see to see this problem at all. :?:

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jun 7th

Post by Brian49 »

I've found a way of fixing the problem here, or perhaps I should say evading it.

When installing the latest "sysv" updates via the terminal, I noticed that the file /etc/init.d/mountall-bootclean.sh was being replaced with a newer version. So after completing the updates, I went to the System/Services dialog and disabled the service mountall-bootclean. When I restarted the computer, the keyboard and mouse were working.

Among other things, mountall-bootclean cleans /var/run. So it looks as though that is indeed where the trouble lies, although it's still not clear in what way.

still no kb/mouse :(

apply this

Code: Select all

1) as root, delete the link /run
2) make a directory /run
3) reboot
/var/run will automagically change to a link.
specifically, su to root to get # prompt
then
rm /run
mkdir /run

reboot ( on terminal it wont work) just press power button for hard reset.

now computer boots normally with working kb/mouse
check sound also, it is back. :)

meanwhile (pure) Debian Sid-gnome+kde had no problem , still using -26 version
so for my hardware, this bug affects only lmde-xfce partition on the same computer.

One more up point for pure Debian Sid :)

Parts of kde 4.8.4 are in sid.

kdelibs is still at 4.8.3 because of upstream issues. Stay tuned for more info...........................

Unfortunately because of kdelibs still being at 4.8.3 inxi -S shows 4.8.3 as do the about tabs on most apps.

i'm having major issues with 4.8.4 in chakra, actually it's the second time it's uploaded and pulled out. nepomuk/strigi are totally broken, they are requiring a new soprano that at the moment breaks kdelibs (well you see, biggest mess).
we are skipping 4.8.4 and building 4.9 beta2 at the moment.

Yes the whole lot of bugs is because of nepomuk.

Hi again y'all! I decided I want to move my laptop to Sid (It's running beautifully on Testing/KDE 4.8.3) and I saw the above and wondered if it's safe to take Sid upgrades. Also did I hear Sid has an even newer version of KDE or is it held up with the nepomunk sexual assault of the poor pooch?

ETA: Typos. Boy, I don't know. "help" should have been "held," it's fixed now. Sorry about any confusion.

Today's update to libept1.4.12, from 1.0.6.1 to 1.07, makes it impossible to launch Synaptic. As far as I can tell, the reason is that Synaptic looks for a libept file which can no longer be found after the update.

Same here...

Looking into it.

XFCE loads ok
On same installation.
Gnome Shell broke.
No composting, no panel, no keyboard, no window borders...big mess.....
Thanks GOD for AWN dock...

I'm wanting to switch back to Sid but this news this am makes me wait. Is libept something I can pin and just get other updates? I depend on Synaptic to read changelogs before taking updates so I'm very hesitant to snag anything I know would break it.
