Hi Everyone

Post by stoswald »

I got the computer bug in 1979, when school introduced this new subject within the mathmatics umbrella, called computing - it involved colouring little circles on thin cards with a pencil - these got sent off somewhere and if you were lucky a few weeks later you got a piece of computer paper with the answer on it. In 1983 I was doing work experience using an ACT Apricot and creating a database using CP/M & DBase2. a couple of early home computers (Grundy Newbrain AD & Commodore Amiga 500) and 3 PC's later I've just got an AMD A7600 APU based PC without an OS.

Installing Linux Mint took 12 minutes and that was from switching on the PC for the first time! After 3 weeks, I am happy with the OS, Wine & PlayonLinux has given me a couple of Free games to play, Steam has given me a few more. I'm running the AMD Propriety GPU Drivers, Evolution email & the 5.0 version of Libre Office.

In 36 years the face of computing has changed beyond recognition - I'm now 50 and am looking forward to the next stage of the IT revolution, which I hope Linux will be part of!

Welcome! Loved hearing about your "old-time" computing experiences. Not that long ago, really. Heh, I remember many years ago passing by the computer lab after school and watching the computer club kids playing a primitive, slow-moving, green monochrome PacMan. Made me shake my head in amazement thinking about how advanced we were.
Well, glad to see you've landed in the Mint. Enjoy!
