Hello everyone. I have been playing with various Linux Distros for about 2 months now. Finally settling on Mint with KDE for my go to OS. Still dual booting with Windows 7 until I can make sure everything attached to the 'puter works. Eventually I want to customize a Distro to give out to my friends to see if they will become Konverts too.
They just dont get this though:
sudo apt-get alife
sudo apt-get update
Windows Konvert

Welcome to the family, Albatross, and Happy Minting!
Re: Windows Konvert
Hi Albatross and friends,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and this great forum!
Most of the time, you do not need to use the console terminal commands to perform basic stuff like updating the computer's Linux Mint operating system (OS) or software applications you have installed because that is automatically done through the Mint Update Manager. And, Installing software or applications can easily be done through System Menu's Software Manager or the Synaptic Package Manager (SPM). It sure helps to learn some basic console terminal commands though, because you can do a lot in the console "terminal", including installing really good applications that may not be in the default software repositories like the Software Manager or SPM.

FYI: It would help everyone here to have more information about your system's setup: like what edition and version of Linux Mint are you using, Cinnamon, Mate, KDE (my fav), or Xfce; version 17 or 17.1, or What?; 32-bit or 64-bit? Some more information about your hardware would be useful as well. You can get this information from top of your system menu's Welcome screen, System Information program(s), and the best is by typing in "inxi -Fxz" from a console terminal prompt, which you can then copy and paste back here. This information helps anyone here in this forum to be able to answer any questions you may have better , thanks. You can even add this information (abbreviated) to your signature using the control panel link in the above left of this forum screen; then when you post a question or reply to one, that info will automatically be there, ex: see mine and others below their posts.

Re: Windows Konvert
Thank you all for the hearty welcomes and the links! I have really been having some fun getting Minty. I am on KDE 17.1 64 bit waiting on .2 to come around.
