Pretty sure I installed Unity, but it won't load.

Was looking around the other day, was thinking about trying unity and mate out.
Figured I should be able to install int since mint is sort of ubuntu...

Used the 2 lines of code in this guide.

Can log out, can log in to cinnamon, can't log into unity. Just get a black screen and mouse arrow.

Anything?
If this isn't gonna work, I'm not gonna search for code to install mate.

So,
Also not working with MATE
Again, I just get a black screen and pointer when I try to switch session.
Don't even get to log in..

Little update,

Switched the login theme from the one I was using (FreeSansGrrl GDM) to the base GTK.

I can get into mate, no problem. Still can't get into unity.. anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

Just my two cents but I thought Unity did not play well with Cinnamon because it uses compiz and compiz conflicts with Cinnamon. I have never tried adding Unity to the mix though.
