Re: Helena Xfce CE Development(updated Dec 29)

Post by merlwiz79 »

I have been falling behind in a lot of other things and been working on them during the day.
I then work on Xfce CE at night.
So far things have been coming along ok.
I have some packages in the repo and am working on adding the rest.
I hope to have them all in by the end of this week.
Then I will start working on the ISO next week.

To watch my progress you can look at the Xfce CE repo here.

I cannot make a 64bit version as I don't have the computer to do so or the money to build one.

The CTRL+ALT+Backspace function was removed by the xorg people because they say too many people hit it by mistake. The command is now ALT+SYSRQ+K to close the x-server.

Thank you very much for your time; I'm using a (my own way) mintified Xubuntu and download and install emerald-themes, firefox-defaults-xfce and nimbus-icon-theme. I'm glad to see that address bar looks good. There is a problem with dark themes and firefox defaults settings I think. Same with Thunderbird.

Again, thanks for your work. We will be awaiting.

Hi merlwiz79, thank you for all of your hard work and determination! My favorite Linux of all time for ease of use, efficiency, and elegance has been Linux Mint 7 XFCE CE! I have tried Helena, but I can't say I am very impressed, it's good, but I like XFCE.

I can beta test once you have an iso.

All the best,

I been using xfce-volstatus-icon under xubuntu 9.10 and it works really good. I think that will be good adding it to Mint XFCE.

Just search for it in the "Add new items" window.
I found something that is perhaps called "Eject devices" (in German its "Gerät einhängen") and its description is something like:
Shows all ejectable devices and ejects them on mouseclick

Is that the same??

Not the same. Eject Devices shows every mounted file system, but xfce-volstatus-icon shows only the removable media like pendrives or externel hard drives. IMHO looks a little more pretty than "eject devices"

This is a good idea. A Twitter account with updates about how it is going with XFCE CE and Mint overall would be very good.

Sorry for the long delays.
My wife is now on meds that make it so she can't drive and I have to drive her everywhere.
I also have been having problems staying awake. :(
Some days it's so bad that splashing ice cold water on my face does nothing.
Also my wife just had lasik eye surgery.
She is also trying to get another opinion about her jaw.
She also has a new problem with a cyst on her ovaries.
They plan on removing it after they test to see if it's cancerous.

Currently there is a problem with uploading new packages into my repo.
It is being looked into and hopefully will be fixed soon.
I have only a few packages to work on and then upload when done.
Then I can get testing on some Live cds. :)

Sorry to hear your Wife is still having problems. I had laser surgery on my good eye yesterday because they found a hole in my retina. I only have the one eye with sight and this makes 4 surgeries I have had on it... On a good note, my vision is fine now. The specialist sealed the hole and did a shotgun pattern on my retina with the laser to help avoid more problems in the future. I hope you can get some rest and your Wife's health problems get resolved. Your Wife comes first.

merlwiz,

Take care of business at home. We'll wait patiently for you to get to the point where you can finish Heiena XFCE without shortchanging your family.

Hi Merlwiz,

Wishing you and family well!
You've already given us such a good distro with LM Xfce 7 CE that we are happy in waiting as long as it takes.

Thanks for all!

I have removed settings that no longer work in mintdesktop-xfce and working on adding a few.
I'll have to get the translations started after I get it all working.
I have to update a couple of packages and then I can start on Live CD making.
I hope to have an iso for internal testing soon.
