[Solved] Can't Install Broadcom STA Driver in Mint 9 KDE

Just installed the love of my life Mint 9 KDE however I can't install the Broadcom STA Driver I will try to do it from synaptic however I've had no luck with the hardware drivers gui and I had to start that manually

it installed via synaptic however I still don't have any wireless

Tried starting the STA driver from terminal

sudo modprobe wl
FATAL: Module wl not found.
FATAL: Error running install command for wl

as you can see it didn't go so well

Somehow making my audio louder has fixed my wifi

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic

Code: Select all

sudo kate /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

then add this to the bottom of the file

options snd-hda-intel model=basic

don't quite understand how though...

Thanks for your tip. Following your steps fixed my Mint KDE STA wifi install also.

Weird, I didn't have this problem on a normal Ubuntu install on this netbook, nor did I have it with Ubuntu Ultimate/

incidentaly I should mention that the above is not really a solution to the problem just a hackish way to fix it

After 8days and 4 OS-Installations and i finally found this post to "fix" my wifi problems. Thank you!

Yes..odd!
the log sscreams that the dir /sys/module/wl/drivers does not exist. In fact ../wl/* does not exist. And you can't create it (long story). I'm doing 3rd fresh install and have dropped back to 32bit to see if this impacts on the issue. I only JUST now found this thread (whilst waiting for the install to finish). Will keep you posted and let you know if I have to resort to the "alsa" fix mentioned above...BIZAAR!

haven't tried the driver install yet. But I can confirm that the backports installation and a reboot creates the /sys/module/wl directory??? confused? I wonder if the directory is created as a part of the download??
Buggger me dead..thats it. fixed???? We need an expert for anything more.

oI had the same problem. I tried the FWcutter instead and somehow it worked... Perhaps they got the buttons mixed up?uo
