Mint 16 KDE install fails on Dell Optiplex 210L

Post by Fox7799 »

On some computers such as the Dell Optiplex 210L, the Mint install runs very slow and I get an ubi-partman failed with exit code 141 message. I create the partitions with Gparted on Puppy Linux 5.7.1 or 5.2.8 and do the manual Mint install. I tried recreating the Mint 16 KDE ext4 partition with the Mint DVD but it never completed the operation after a very long time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have had a great deal of problems installing any linux to older dells

I believe the problem is that the "dianostic" partition is used as part of the bios and if it is removed them the boot options fail - I have managed to get it installed if I manually delete al partitions except the diagnostic partition and then allow mint to use all the free space .

As to slow - yes its painfully slow - Dell used the cheapest components and the dvd drives are notoriously slow for data - so slow in fact that the installer can timeout - its a case of wiggling the mouse whilst its installing - annoying but worth it
