Linux Mint 16 KDE and nvidia - tearing [SOLVED]

Post by mbalazs81 »

hello

I have an nvidia 9600gt, no problem, nvidia driver working fine, but I always have to change the "scale method" in the desktop effects menu after the boot, otherwise, I see the tearing effect. Any idea?

I had tearing issues with Mint 13 which no amount of tweaking would fix apart from switching between open GL2 & GL3 on every boot (strangely enough it didn't matter which I chose as long as I actually did the change!) :?

Switched to the open source nouveau drivers and all the tearing went away.

For me the open source drivers perform perfectly in every way apart from I now have no hdmi sound. A problem I’m happy to live with since I’ve always connected audio directly to an amplifier anyway.

I don't know if the nVidia driver contains something similar but the ATI Control Center contains an option for "Tear free desktop" this option helped immensely for me.

yes, contains: http://kepkezelo.com/viewer.php?file=ul ... oaizwc.png

But I need to switch the scale method to an another after every boot, for a tear free desktop.

I doubt this will help tearing but try raster as the Qt graphics system, it's a *lot* faster than native. See http://userbase.kde.org/Desktop_Effects ... ics_System

For me the thing that helped with using the nVidia driver is this:
In the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file I had to change a line in the screen section (at the end of the file) so it looks like this:

Option "metamodes" "nvidia-auto-select +0+0 { ForceFullCompositionPipeline = On }"

No idea what this means but since then the tearing is gone. I use a GTX 760 card, but maybe this could help you as well.

Hello,
try this

http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=117147

or this

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322060

I have solved adding
export __GL_YIELD="USLEEP"
to /etc/profile.

Is there any special setting for the youtube(flash 11.2) tearing? Everything fine, except this.
