Re: Google chrome strange behavior
The latest version of Chrome, Version 114.0.5735.90 (Official Build) (64-bit), seems to have fixed everything.

Re: Google chrome strange behavior
I had the same issue on 2 computers. My solution was to go to settings and switch off the 'Use hardware acceleration when available' . This was quite difficult as I could not see much on the Settings page, but if you want to try, this is what to do- Open the Settings page, the cursor is already in t...

Re: [SOLVED] HP Video playback issue
I have just seen the owner of the laptop in question and thanks to your suggestion to install the 5.14 kernel I am pleased to say that has stopped the video issue. Thank you SMG.

[SOLVED]Re: HP Video playback issue
I have found a solution. I had changed the kernel to 5.13 which was needed for the later graphic chipset. While it stopped Cinnamon complaining about a lack of video acceleration, it seemed to cause this crashing problem. I have changed to the 5:11 kernel that keeps both Cinnamon happy and does not ...

[SOLVED] HP Video playback issue
I have an HP 15s-fq2015sa laptop, the specification are here . Playing video content from Youtube, BBC iPlayer ITV Hub etc using Chromium, Chrome or Firefox causes a complete computer lock up after a short period of playback, requiring holding the power button down to restart. The laptop was running...

Re: HP Laptop - Wont boot Mint [SOLVED]
SMG, thanks for the input. Not sure what sda referred to. The disk says it is not RAID. The sda issue made me think, as there was an option to install from a non-writable DVD. I tried it with Mint 20.2 Edge, and it works, I had to update the kernel to 15.3 as the 5.0 Wi-fi worked but the 2.4 didn't!...

Re: HP Laptop - Wont boot Mint
I have tried all the suggestions, Mint Edge, Ubuntu 20.10 & Manjero. It is as if there is something stopping the system communicating with the USB.
Any more ideas?
Thanks,

Re: HP Laptop - Wont boot Mint
Hi mikaelrask and thanks. I will try that download and see what happens. If all goes well I will delete Win 10 but, yes, I have created a 50GB space for Mint, so I can test it out. I was wondering about trying to update the kernel, as I did that on a new Dell, and suddenly it started seeing the Wi-F...

HP Laptop - Wont boot Mint [SOLVED]
I am trying to install Mint on a Laptop HP 15s-fq2 (11gen i3) which has Win 10. Bitlocker, SecureBoot & Fast Boot are off, there is no option to use Legacy Boot. I have tried nomodeset. The ISO checksum is OK and I have used it to install Mint on another computer, just to check it's OK. All I ge...

[SOLVED]Re: Dell Optiplex 3080
The drive problem can be solved by turning the RAID off and switching to AHCI in the BIOS. Mint now sees the drive and all looks OK.
Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Re: Dell Optiplex 3080
Thanks for the replies. The first problem is solved, you were correct in that the monitor was the issue. I tried another one and the Desktop is fine. Problem 2, however, is not yet solved. I set up Windows, just in case the drive needed formatting or something, but Mint does not see the drive, even ...

[SOLVED] Dell Optiplex 3080
I have a new Dell Optiplex 3080 with Intel integrated graphics. Mint starts fine from the USB drive until the Desktop should appear then all I see is a flash and then the screen goes dark. The OS is up, I hear the greeting jingle and I can reboot OK [Ctrl+Alt+End]. If I boot without graphics I get t...

Re: HP Printers - Communication errors [SOLVED]
Thanks, Karl. That seems to be the problem with my printer. I have passed the 'fix' on to my friend. I was also contacted today by another user complaining that his HP scanner was not working, so I have passed the news on to him as well.
Well spotted!

HP Printers - Communication errors
Hi, I have found that printing with USB to an HP 8710 throws up communication errors. It works fine as a network printer. I was testing it as a friend of mine's computer, that I had just installed Mint 20 on, said that his HP 2450 would not print. I tried it on 4 different computers with the same re...

Skype on Mint 20
I have installed Skype on a laptop with Mint 20 and it is fine. I installed Mint 20 on my desktop and Skype informs me that there in no microphone, no speakers and no camera. The camera works fine in Cheese, the speakers are OK and I tested the mic in the 'Sound' settings and that's fine as well. An...

Re: Duplicate printer - How to prevent autodetection?
Thanks for the replies guys, we are all on islands just vastly different sizes. I am not over worried about this so I don't think I will stop the 'service'. The question about HPLIP was a good one as I always install the HPLIP GUI as it make installation of a network printer a breeze. Interestingly ...
