Change text scaling factor with script [SOLVED]
Hello, I regularly switch between two monitor setups (4k at home, 2x FHD at the office). At home, I use a text scaling factor of 1.2 due to the 4k screen, while at work 1.0 is fine. I want to automate this and one step would be to change the text scaling factor in a shell script. How can I do this (...

Re: Upgrade from 19.3 to 20 got stuck at downgrading step
thus, before you did an restored via Timeshift, did you reboot or check the version ?. that would tell you, just where is was at. the usual inxi -Fxxrz would also tell you, what the system status is at. :) I did reboot as instructed. What do you mean with "check the version" ? The OS was ...

Re: Upgrade from 19.3 to 20 got stuck at downgrading step
Can't answer your question, but this is precisely why the consensus is that when going up a major version (i.e., 19 > 20) it's always best to do a clean install. The thought crossed my mind but it would be more work to get everything like it was in the 19.3 install. So I kinda prefer the direct upg...

Upgrade from 19.3 to 20 got stuck at downgrading step
Hello, over the holidays I wanted to upgrade Linux Mint Cinnamon 19.3 to 20 on my parents computer. I followed the official instruction very precisely, but I got stuck at the downgrading step. The dialog showed the terminal output during the downgrade. When it reached "Processing triggers for m...

Artifacts as horizontal lines flickering when using TV as external screen
Hello, I have a laptop (HP Probook 6540b, Core i5 540M processor) which I regularly connect to my TV via AVR. As the laptop has DisplayPort, I use a DP-to-HDMI adapter to plug a HDMI cable into the AUX HDMI port at my AVR. Then I switch the laptop to external screen only (no extended desktop or scre...

IntelliJ IDE ignores SIGINT under Linux Mint Mate Tessa
Hi, Jetbrains IntelliJ IDEA notifies at startup, that it ignores SIGINT and hence the stop button in the IDE won't work. For example, one would not be able to stop an appliation that was started via the IDE. Well, you can by a second click on that skull button, but that shouldn't be neccessary. The ...

Printing large pages with Firefox fills printer memory and makes it abort the job
Hello, OS: Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon 64-bit Printer: HP Color LaserJet M252n (using HPLIP 3.17.7) I detected a strange problem, when printing web pages with some high-res (3000-4000px width) pictures in it. Those pages won't be printed. The printer display says "Memory is low. Job aborted."...

It's definitely Sarah. And Mint Updater shows "Upgrade to Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya". It's actually skipping Serena. RELEASE=18 CODENAME=sarah EDITION="Cinnamon 64-bit" DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 18 Sarah" DESKTOP=Gnome TOOLKIT=GTK NEW_FEATURES_URL=http://www.linuxmint.com/rel...

Upgrade Linux Mint to next version - NOT latest version
Hello, I have a installation of LM 18 Sarah and I want to upgrade to 18.1 Serena. Unfortunately, the Mint Updater only provides the upgrade to the latest version. Currently this is 18.2 Sonya. I'd like to test something with 18.1 Serena specifically. How can I upgrade only to 18.1? Is it possible? A...

Re: Good office hardware for Linux Mint lasting 5-10 years
The PSU is a Enermax Eco 80+ 350W. Purchased in January 2010. Had an easy life so far (no maxing out). Powered the previous system: i3-530, 2x1GB Kingston Value RAM DDR3-1333 RAM, 3 HDDs. New system is up by the way and it runs pretty nice so far with 18.1. (18.2 had some ghost display issues - prob...

Re: Good office hardware for Linux Mint lasting 5-10 years
Thank you for all the input. Yes, may parents use a Linux box and will continue so. I switched them to LM17 Cinnamon when support for XP ended. I have to analyse, how much data they currently store on their computer. But that is probably a non-issue. The 256-SSD is 89€ in one store, and the 128 mode...

Good office hardware for Linux Mint lasting 5-10 years
Hello, my parents asked me to look into a new build for their home office PC. Currently it's a budget PC from 2010 with hard disks from 2007. The box boots in 50 seconds and programs (firefox, thunderbird, gimp) take some time to open, sometimes 10 seconds or more. The usual stuff they do is surfing...

Re: 17.3 64 bit Cinnamon dual display problem
I haven't heard of DisplayLink yet, but seems to be a digital connection. I also had a problem, when mixing digital and analog connections with a dual screen setup. Using the digitally connected screen as the main desktop and the analog one as the extension solved the problem for me. Altough this wa...

Surround sound card with good Linux support available?
Hello a few days ago I was interested, how well the hardware of my PC is handled by Linux Mint. I will probably switch from Windows to Linux at some day. I used 17.3 for some tests. I was especially interested in my sound card, which is a Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer and it is supported by ALSA. I use...

Incorrect checkbox and radio button styles
Hello, first off: due to company policy I use UbuntuMATE edition, on which I installed Cinnamon 2.6 and Mint-X theme. The problem is, that some dialogs paint strange or wrong checkboxes and radio buttons. See attached screenshot of nemo settings. I can see this in the settings of gnome-terminal, too...

Re: LM17 starts with low resolution with screen powered off
Well, I don't know either, why your previous solution works on your system, but not on mine. That computer won't ever use a second screen, I am sure of that. So, as it is running for a few days now without any problems, this should be ok.
