Re: Dependency problems with xapp
That is good to know. So when I get Gtk-Message: 22:40:20.388: Failed to load module "xapp-gtk3-module" it is more likely to be a linking error, and I need to create a link where it is expected (in my case by the Red GUI module). EDIT: I need the 32-bit version, and it isn't available for ...

Re: Dependency problems with xapp
It would be really nice to have libxapp-gtk3-module in the repos though..!
Even Victoria 21.3 doesn't have it, while Ubuntu 22.04 does.

Re: <SOLVED> Re: LM21 Mate - ZFS root
And the correct solution appears to be the simplest. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=323852 The only difference s that libzfs2linux no longer exists, and needs dropping from the install line. Thank you for reporting back! I tried this method on LM 20, but it is great to know it still l...

Mint 20 Mate Beta Issue: Clock applet
The main issue I've found is that the beloved Clock applet seems to crash often when adding Locations, and it doesn't seem to display the weather. Both are not huge issues to me, I'm already happy Mint is still running it in the default setup!

Re: Caja 1.20.2 rename bug
Same here, it sometimes happens, but restarting caja solves it. It is a real bug, but I don't know of a consistent way to reproduce it.

Installing Linux on encrypted drive
Dear people, The script that can be used to install Mint on a fully (or partly..!) LUKS encrypted harddrive has been updated and tested with Linux Mint 17.3. From the README: lmdescrypt version 0.77 This script installs Linux Mint Debian Edition i686 or amd64, version 201403, or Linux Mint Debian Ed...

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
Thanks Trapper! To be honest, I haven't tested this, but the fix was so straightforward that I'm trusting (hoping) it's working now.Trapper wrote:Now to find yet another spare drive to test the script again.

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
Oh dear... That's a real bug; the code never checked which one to do first. Fixed! Thanks for reporting.Trapper wrote:The problem is that the data LV with "REST" gets created prior to the root LV being created.

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
Someone else had issues with the "REST" option I guess if the space that is left is too small for the purpose, it might be problematic; it doesn't check for all eventualities... But REST is just implemented with LVM's 100%FREE, which just means: the rest of the remaining space. How did yo...

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
And the custom installer will not let you setup an LVM at all. I am still looking for instructions for setting it up manually without encrypting the /boot. Indeed, I tried out of curiousity. You can designate an encrypted volume, but not do LVM... How poor, I can't understand why they don't fix thi...

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
Or maybe you have to setup the LVM and encryption before running the installer? It used to be that you had to set it the LUKS/LVM up yourself, and then start the installer. And if I remember correctly, you then also had to chroot and make sure a new initrd was made to include crypttab. Earlier vers...

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
My version = linuxmint-17.2-cinnamon-64bit.iso The installer for Linux Mint 17.2 accomodates installation on LUKS/LVM, so there is no need for this script, I have cut out support for 'regular' Linuxmint for that reason. [EDIT: the standard installer is too inflexible for some uses, and now we can h...

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
I am very sorry for this bug. I put the script through http://www.shellcheck.net/ and it always recommends putting quotes around variable names. But in some cases, that is NOT what you want... I didn't test after the "improvements" (not...)
I've just uploaded the corrected version.

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
Thanks for checking that it works for you. A few caveats about this current version: - I haven't checked this with older versions of LMDE, I no longer have the iso's (but is there much point to them??) - This will not work with UEFI installations (but I don't know if the normal installer works in th...

Re: LMDE install with encrypted partitions or resizable volu
The script ran into trouble when removing a volumegroup that is non-existent on your system. The script uses a halt-on-any-error flag, so it stops, also when there isn't really a problem. I've updated the script (sorry Tom...), but the old links won't work correctly anymore, so I finally setup a sou...

In my testing I've found that the script that worked well for LMDE 201403 needed some tweaks for LMDE-2 (201504). My new code is at:

Re: Newbie Alert - No way to dual boot - No GRUB
For posterity: We reinstalled on a non-encrypted partition, and with using our original boot partition. I think the installer does some EFI magic that I haven't mastered yet... Anyway, then we just used the grub.conf from the encrypted install instead of the unencrypted one, and in the end we just w...
