Re: Mint 21--How is it working for you?
No problems so far after in place upgrade, it feels a little slower, nothing major just that feeling that's it's not quite as fast, opening a terminal for example. I left the not recommended snapd and flatpaks in place and they are working without any issues. The gpg message error for Skype resolved...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 21 - the most buggy release in the Linux Mint history?
Sorry to pile on 007 but my clean install of 21 is running quite smoothly, I have yet to run into any bugs. A distribution is a starting point, I was making changes in the first 10 minutes after clean install I am sure most of us do. Our installs drift in separate directions and become really our o...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 21 - the most buggy release in the Linux Mint history?
Nope, all I want is the first google, ddg result or whatever point me to an official LM site, not a site I may or may not trust, if the LM blog was a bit more active that would have been the case. As it happens I have never upgraded LM before I have always used a new ISO, so I did not know the comm...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 21 - the most buggy release in the Linux Mint history?
It depends on the flavour, Kubuntu is fairly intuitive for Windows users, all I can say is I have used both and I had to jump through more hoops to get the software I wanted running on LM than Ubuntu, from a purely visual point of view then yes Cinnamon or Mate would be ideal for ex windows users

Re: Mint Cinnamon 21 - the most buggy release in the Linux Mint history?
With "guide" you refer to a tutorial for "mintupgrade"? I shouldn't have used the word 'guide' as it is not used in official channels, but I was referring to the "upgrade instructions" as announced in the release: Upgrade instructions for Linux Mint 20.3 will be provid...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 21 - the most buggy release in the Linux Mint history?
Most Linux users are tinkerers, and you learn from your mistakes, I don't think LM should be nannying us with this delay in a couple of simple commands and release note warnings, just a simple statement that it's at your own risk, which it always is with any distro unless you are paying some suppor...

Re: Mint Cinnamon 21 - the most buggy release in the Linux Mint history?
The official mintupgrade tool was updated on august 5th. https://i.imgur.com/wqstVZy.png I think they are testing different scenario's and that's why there is no announcement yet. I have used CloneZilla to take a complete disk image backup , and then ran the official mintupgrade tool for upgrading ...

Re: Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” Cinnamon released!
Are they always to be removed? Often we find important solutions in other Linux forums or developer forums. I like it to show the source instead of pretending it be my "solution". What about the link I posted here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2210447#p2210447 Yes that wor...

Re: Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” Cinnamon released!
You can put any link here, right? Possibly only goes with button: Please do not post unofficial sources of information. They will be removed. Well it is quite a reputable site, but it was a GUI upgrade and it worked, I have no wish to promote other blogs, I just got fed up with waiting, had a free ...

Re: Linux Mint 21 “Vanessa” Cinnamon released!
No, In the past the upgrade tool was a command line tool, the coming tool has a GUI. The one I used this morning was definitely a GUI, whether it's the right one or not I don't know, but it worked without any major issues They won't let me post the blog link, but basically it was sudo apt install -...

Re: What was Linux like back in 1998?
Well it was a lot better than Windows 95 and 98, but I decided to dual boot with Red Hat 5.2, there was GUI application to set the partition sizes and dual boot options. When it had finished I had a fully operational RH system but no sign of a dual boot and my Windows partition was gone, someone wil...

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working
Hello thanks for your hint, but it didn't work for me. Pietro Hello, Did you ensure to make the new printer entry in Menu "Printing" Configure Printers the default? under printer properties Make and Model it should say "HP LaserJet 1022 zjs, hpcups 3.12.2, requires proprietary plugin...

Re: No way to make HP LaserJet 1020 (usb) working
Had a similar issue with the HP1022, this worked OK with LM9 but not LM13. I fixed it by installing hplip-gui and installing the printer using that, it will fetch the proprietary driver rather than the CUPS one.
If the driver install part fails then run
sudo hp-plugin
from the terminal

Re: mate is 1.4 out
Has anyone actually read the discription provided in Synaptics Package Manager for the Mate-core or Mate-desktop-environment files? Not 1.4 per se, just those files: "The MATE Desktop Environment, a non-intuitive and unattractive desktop for users, using traditional computing desktop metaphor....

Re: mate is 1.4 out
Thanks, it seems strange that in LM13 Mate version that mate-desktop-environment 1.2 does not seem to be installed to upgrade, assume that it's just renamed for Mint or just meta package
