I'm going to hold off on this project for a while as it is more trouble than it is worth. Thank you all for the feedback and assistance.

Re: MATE screensaver question
Well, every time I install one .deb and get the dependencies installed then there is another error or requirement. I am getting the feeling that it is nigh impossible to utilize the mate-screensaver without using the MATE desktop. I appreciate all the input and hope there is a possible solution. I a...

Re: MATE screensaver question
Got a dependency error when trying to install the second step, Dependency is not satisifiable: libmate-desktop-2-17
Is there any way to remedy this? I want to be able to us the screensaver without installing/using the full MATE desktop.

Re: MATE screensaver question
Thank you all for the input. I am trying to get this working on MakuluLinux Unity as I am really impressed with what Jacque has done with this distro but Ubuntu does not come with the screensaver and I love the MATE screensaver. I am hoping these ideas will work and allow me to use the MATE screensa...

Re: MATE screensaver question
Yes, I have tried Xscreensaver and it does not work exactly the same as the MATE version. It locks the screen and then fades to black after the set time limit for the screensaver. I love the way MATE screensaver immediately fades to black and locks when locking the screen.

MATE screensaver question
Hello All, I asked this on the Ubuntu Forums but thought this would be a good place to ask as well. Is there a way to install the MATE screensaver in another desktop environment? I love the MATE screensaver for how it operates, i.e. when locking the screen it fades to blank screen and even hides the...

Re: LM Ubuntu vs Debian
I am glad to see others have experienced the same thing. The funny part is that my laptop is over 7 years old and came with Windows XP Media Center to give you an idea of the age of the laptop. I am happy that LM17 runs so well on it and glad I was not imagining things.

That is a cool new feature and very enticing! I presently have LM17 installed and really like it but just contemplating LMDE as a future solution.

Well, I feel similarly about the Ubuntu direction and may just go with the Debian edition anyway and appreciate the feedback.

Re: LM Ubuntu vs Debian
Well, I am going by how quickly apps launch, updates go, and just overall getting around. Both LM 16 & 17 just feel snappier than LMDE. I kinda wish it was the opposite as I like the rolling release concept.

LM Ubuntu vs Debian
Hi All, I have tried both the Ubuntu and Debian versions of Linux Mint and have been surprised that the Ubuntu version seems to be snappier and work better than the Debian version, yet I see reviews online that state the opposite. Is there some reason the Ubuntu version would seem faster/more stable...

Cinnamon DE and Pinguy
Hi All, I know this subject probably made people wonder but here is my question. The reason I have been such a die hard Cinnamon DE guy is because of actually one feature, which until today while trying out Pinguy I thought was exclusive to Cinnamon, and that is the ability to switch your output dev...

I am using it and loving it! It is my favorite distro and has truly stopped my distro hopping. It has everything I dreamed of in a distro and fits me perfectly.

Re: End of support for Mint 16... What does it mean?
It means you need to switch to LMDE and then never have to worry about end-of-life again! Honestly, I just switched to LMDE because of the desire to avoid having to upgrade and it has been wonderful.
